YOUTH THEATRE PROGRAM

Theatre Newfoundland Labrador operates a hugely successful youth theatre program dedicated to the promotion of the arts in young people throughout the region. Through our program, we hope to enable students to develop the focus, confidence, and communication skills that can impact every aspect of their lives.  Classes are designed to encourage risk-taking and promote the discovery of individual strengths.
TNL presently operates eight classes for children aged 6 - 19 years under the supervision of Artistic Associate in Charge of Youth and Outreach Programming, Sara…h McDonald-Anderson.  Classes are structured according to age and grade and run for ten (10) sessions.  The cost is $90 per student and $60 for each sibling.  The tentative start date for our fall classes is September 16th, 2008.   With over 100 students, class space is much in demand and interested students are encouraged to apply early for entry into the program.

STAGE HEAD ACADEMY

Stage Head Academy is a theatre study program for youth aged 16 - 18 years.
Designed for those students who may be considering a career in theatre, Stage Head Academy is a two week theatre intensive taught by company members of our Gros Morne Theatre Festival.   The program runs for two weeks in July and takes place in Cow Head. The curriculum will include classes on movement, acting, stagecraft, playwriting, character study etc.  During their stay, students will partake of the Gros Morne Theatre Festival season and will, themselves, stage their own production in the festival.

Stage Head Academy is a senior youth theatre program which provides secondary school children with an intensive theatre training experience.
This program is designed to -
  • provide young people, considering a career in theatre, with practical experience
  • allow students to learn from professionally trained and established artists from the theatrical arena.
  • provide classes in various areas of theatre
  • instil students with knowledge about how a professional summer- stock theatre program operates
  • create an environment where young people can begin to make contacts that may be valuable when later establishing themselves as professional artists.
  • encourage and strengthen imagination, creativity, self confidence, self discipline, and group work.
  • give students an opportunity to develop and stage a performance in a professional setting
  • immerse students in a festival season with opportunities of viewing and critiquing the season's productions
  • better prepare students for entrance into college and university theatre arts programs
